Rainy Day Ideas in Kildare

This is the situation all too often in our fair isle - the weekends or holidays arrive... and so do the rain clouds!  Depending on your children's ages and interests, there are lots of things to do in Kidare when the rain pours down!

Take a trip to one of the many soft-play areas in Kildare

Take the family bowling at the K-Bowl Family Entertainment Centre at Newhall, Naas.  K-Bowl offers 10pin bowling which can be enjoyed by kids from as young as three years of age.  Refreshments are also available.

Take in a movie/matinee at the UCI Cinema, Newbridge or Storm Cinema, Naas. There is a kids' club with discounted rates on Saturdays, Sundays, and school holidays - 11am in UCI and 12pm in Storm.

Visit your local library.  All libraries in the county have a junior section.  Great for a rainy afternoon - go and read with the children or take part in many of the free events and activities that take place.  Check out library opening times before you make plans.

Go swimming at K-Leisure in Naas, or Athy where there is Kids Pools (Naas) and family changing facilities, and coffee dock.

Why not try your hand at mini-golf, at the 18 hole indoor crazy golf course, Toughers Business Park, Naas.

The Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge, has a dedicated Children's Art Space - which regularly features interactive children's Art exhibitions. This is a lovely space for the children to hang out in, while you enjoy a coffee at CaToCa cafe.

Visit your local bookstore and treat the kids to a new book. Spend time browsing for that special book and go home and read it together. Barker & Jones in Naas, has a dedicated kids section on top floor and a nice coffee shop on first floor.

Put on the raingear and wellies and go for a walk in the rain.  Most kids love splashing in puddles, and sometimes it's a great way to release pent-up energy from being cooped up inside.  You can always warm up afterwards with dry clothes and hot chocolate.

Lastly, if you cannot leave the house, look for ideas in our ‘what to do on a Rainy day’ section.  You are guaranteed to find something to keep the kids entertained whilst stuck indoors!
